Cruising Around L.A.

We picked up the car today.  It is a KIA Borrego SUV – I wasn’t too happy when I heard what I was getting but I have been really pleasantly surprised!  This is a REALLY nice car to drive.  I might even check it out when I get back home…

It didn’t take long to get used to driving from the left side of the car and on the opposite side of the road.  We were surprised at how many people actually do U-turns at traffic lights, sometimes two or three cars in a row.  We thought they were getting away with it but then I noticed that left turn lanes (from the right-hand side of the road) had signs that actual show that U-turns are allowed!

We drove to the other side of town, negotiate some fast moving heavy traffic.  There are freeways ALL OVER THE PLACE.  They all criss-cross and loop around, go up and down and I tell you what, they make the Light Horse Exchange at East Creek look like a normal intersection in Hornsby.  The roads are well built, wide (some freeways have 7 lanes each way) and there are tonnes of exits.  The road system is easy to understand and navigate, as all main roads have Route Numbers and all freeways have numbered exits.  The freeway system is very forgiving, if you miss an exit, you take the next one and chuck a U-y at the next lights – Bob’s your uncle. We know this because it is very hard to read an iPhone navigation map with so many overlapping roads around on/off ramps that we kinda missed a few.  Annie is a great navigator – yes boys – I admit she can read maps better than me… 🙂

I am fascinated by American cars – well trucks actually. There are so many pick-up trucks and they look awesome. I think I want one now!

For the boys, you may think I am insane, and I am inclined to agree with you, but I voluntarily dropped Annie & Lil at a MASSIVE Outlet centre with a credit card and 3 hours to do some damage whilst I took Jem to the local cinemas to see Hop.  Yes – I know – crazy – but they did a great job and we can still afford to fly home 🙂

Cool that you’ve conquered the driving. How do you think I’d go ????
And AWESOME shopping spree ladies!! Can’t wait to check out your new threads. Go GAP!!! You’ll be the envy of all females!!
Oh and yes, those weird U turns are also permissible in Melbourne. I’m yet to attempt one tho…. for obvious reasons.
Sending you lovin’ and prayers XXX
